In our quest for a net-zero future, geothermal energy stands out as a formidable and sustainable energy source. In this talk, Prof. Ranjith PG will explore the vast potential of geothermal energy, emphasizing its ability to provide a consistent and renewable energy supply. However, geothermal energy also presents a set of challenges that need to be addressed to unlock its full potential.
Prof. Ranjith PG will highlight the Australian geothermal project as a key example, discussing both the opportunities it presents and the specific challenges it faces, including geological complexities and regulatory issues. This case study will provide valuable insights into the real-world application of geothermal technology and the hurdles that must be overcome. Furthermore, Prof. Ranjith PG will explore into the latest advancements in modelling and experimental techniques for the stimulation of Enhanced Geothermal Systems (EGS), with a particular focus on the pioneering work done at the 3G Deep Earth Energy Laboratory. These cutting-edge approaches aim to significantly enhance the recovery of heat from geothermal reservoirs, making geothermal energy more efficient and viable. Through detailed analysis and examples, Prof. Ranjith PG will demonstrate how these advanced techniques are crucial for overcoming existing limitations and positioning geothermal energy as a cornerstone in our transition to net-zero emissions.
主講人簡介:
P.G.Ranjith,莫納什大學地質力學系教授、地球能源實驗室的創始人、主任,其研究領域涵蓋二氧化碳地質封存、非常規油氣開采、石油地質、深部地熱資源開采、礦山地質、巖土力學等。發表550多項學術成果,包括專著1部、國際期刊論文474篇、國際會議論文70篇,Scopus的H指數為79,Google的H指數為87。目前在多個學術期刊任職,如Geomechanics and Geophysics for GeoEnergy and GeoResource雜志主編,Journal of Unconventional Oil and GasResources雜志副主編,Rock Mechanics and Rock Engineering雜志和EngineeringGeology雜志編委等,由于其在應對氣候變化等領域做出的杰出貢獻,2009年獲得“ARC Future獎”,2012年獲澳大利亞領導獎,2019年當選澳大利亞科技與工程院院士,2021年當選為歐洲科學與藝術學院院士,2022年當選為印度國家工程院外籍院士,2023年當選中國工程院外籍院士。
